and welcome to the November newsletter! It is official! We have finally reached the last month of 2022! The Christmas magic is in the air, the streets are beautifully decorated, and Christmas shopping frenzy is all around. We are all getting ready to welcome the New Year!
At Greek to Me, this time is a great opportunity for a good, last push of work until the Holidays. November was an intense and productive month with translations, interpreting, lectures, voice coaching and taking part in interesting, high-profile work.
Let's have a look at this last month!
November saw more than 25,000 words translated or edited. Projects included marketing adaptations, certified legal translations, face-to-face simultaneous interpreting, and voice coaching actors in recording studios during TV campaign productions. Most of the work facilitates legal proceedings, and helps push product sales in the Greek-speaking markets. Let's not forget the children's books too. Hopefully, we'll be able to share those with you soon.
"Languages are for Everyone" a CIOL x Duolingo event
One of the highlights this month was receiving an invitation from the Vice President of CIOL, Baroness Jean Coussins to join "Languages are for Everyone", a CIOL x Duolingo event that took place at the House of Lords Palace of Westminster. The conversation between Luis von Ahn, Duolingo Founder and CEO, and John Worne, CIOL CEO, was stimulating. Along with other language experts in the audience, I enjoyed hearing the talk on language learning, user behaviour, algorithms, learning patterns, technology and the dynamic intersection between the two organisations. Marketing workshop on ProZ.com On November 30th, as part of Giving Tuesday for ProZ.com, I had the honour to deliver "Make, cast and harvest your net", a marketing seminar for translators and interpreters. This workshop focused on marketing fundamentals, such as client personas and social media, identifying your brand, defining your niche, building a strategy, and overcoming self-limiting anxieties. Everyone who joined the workshop donated to the environmental organisation, Ecologi.
