Vasiliki Prestidge hosts Philippa Willitts, writer editor and proofreader, for CIOL Translating

As a steering group member for the Chartered Institute of Linguists’ Translating Division, Vasiliki will be hosting Philippa Willitts for her much-anticipated ‘Proofreading and copywriting for translators: tips, tools and techniques’ online event.

Proofreading and copywriting are key skills that can benefit translators in all sectors. Philippa will guide attendees through the tools and tips needed to improve proofreading skills and learn how copywriting can help to promote translators' work.

Key learning objectives:

  • Learn the difference between the skills required to proofread your own and somebody else’s writing and translations

  • Find out which software, books and tools can help you to improve your proofreading

  • Discover how translators can use copywriting skills in everything from tweets to websites

  • Learn about storytelling, social proof, PAS and power words and how they can improve your copywriting

  • Discover the best ways to make your writing readable on the web, how to use calls to action and how to analyse headlines for success

Philippa is a freelance writer, editor and proofreader based in Sheffield, England. She has written for the Guardian, Independent, Channel 4 News blog and New Statesman and she is editor-in-chief of Global Comment. She is also currently doing communications work with local charity, Disability Sheffield.

Vasiliki is a translator, interpreter, transcreator, blogger, consultant and director of Greek to Me Translations Ltd. She works with English and Greek and specialises in legal, creative, and psychometrics. She is a Chartered Linguist, member of CIoL, ITI and PEM and she is registered with the Greek Consulate as a certified translator and interpreter. She holds a BA in English and Masters in Business Translation and Interpreting. She is a Steering Group Member of the CIOL Translating Division and CIOL Business, Professions and Government Division. She is an Associate Lecturer in Legal Translation at London Metropolitan University, a public speaker and writer for industry magazines.
